Organization is Key!

HOW TO STAY ORGANIZED

For Your Backpack:

Place papers in folders instead of directly in your backpack.

Keep different pockets for different items - snack in one pocket, folders in another, textbooks in a third.

Pack the backpack each night before you go to sleep so that you are ready for the next school day. Be sure to include signed tests, papers, books and notebooks.

Unpack the backpack each morning when you arrive at school to ensure you have everything you need for the day.

For Your Desk:

Keep the desktop free of all unnecessary papers, books, etc.

Keep textbooks and folders on one side of the desk, and notebooks, assignment pad, and SSR book on the other side.

Each day, remove everything you don't need from the inside of your desk.

Keep school supplies in a pencil case.

For Assignments:

Use graph paper (or paper with columns) when working on math problems to keep the numbers in their proper places. To easily create columns, turn your notebook so that the spiral is on top.

Number each math problem you copy into your notebook.

Cover parts of tasks/assignments that have been completed or are distracting with a blank paper or index card.

Work on one task at a time.

In General:

Color code all materials for each subject.

Asks questions when you are confused.

Write homework, assignment due dates, and test dates in the assignment pad.

List all items you need to bring home in the "TAKE HOME" section of the assignment pad.

Check off assignments in the assignment pad as they are completed each night.

Double check that you have all necessary materials before leaving to school each day. When you pack your backpack at the end of the school day, be sure that you have all the necessary materials to do your homework. Ask for help to create a checklist if you feel you need one.
